The Archives, the legacy of Cattaneo’s heirs, are part of a private entity directed by the artist’s daughter, the art historian Marcella Cattaneo. Established in 2003, the year the sculptor died, the Archives hold a broad array of materials, ranging from graphic works to preparatory drawings for sculptures, medal design, photographs and the artist’s writings. There is an extensive bibliography on his oeuvre, from monographs to catalogues for collective exhibitions, newspaper articles and videos, as well as documentation provided by scholars and researchers.
The aim of the Archives is to promote and protect Cattaneo’s oeuvre. Consequently, anyone who owns works by the sculptor can contact us so that the works can be catalogued correctly.
For the purpose of the future publication of Cattaneo’s general catalogue, we would like to receive the following materials:
- 3 black-and-white photographs and 1 colour photograph of the work
- 1 close-up of the signature, date or other inscriptions
- the entry for the work, complete with the title, measurements, technique, signature and/or date, and any indications concerning exhibitions in which it has been shown, bibliography, provenance, etc. (downloadable attachment)
The Archives reserve the right to request an examination of the work in order to assess authenticity. Authentications are issued exclusively by the Archives. No economic appraisals are made. Please contact the Archives for additional clarifications and information.
